All Department of Justice Regulatory Gun Safe Standards  regulatory standards require a gun safe to meet the following standards including:

The lock also needs to be protected by a case-hardened (60+) drill-resistant steel plate, or drill-resistant material.

3) The bolt-work needs to consist of at least three steel locking bolts of at least ½ inch thickness that intrude from the door of the safe into the body of the safe or from the body of the safe into the door.

4) Simply put the lock needs to be available for repeated use. The exterior walls need to me made of at least 12-gauge thick steel for a single-walled safe. The doors need to be at least minimum of two layers of 12-gauge steel, or one layer of 7-gauge steel compound.

The gun safe must always be properly bolted down  so there’s no way anyone can wrangle that safe easily out of your house, never underestimate the resourcefulness of a highly determined burglar. Concrete provides the most secure gun safe anchor and should be the preferred anchor for mounting a your safe. When mounting a gun safe in concrete always remember to mount using  1/2” concrete bolts or larger, and use more than one bolt, four bolts for mounting is ideal for mounting a gun safe. Always remember when anchoring a gun safe to a wooden floor, you should always anchor one or more bolts into a foundation support beam.

GunVault Gun Safes

GunVault Gun Safes

Gun safes are defined as a “secure and protective storage container for one or more firearms, and, or ammunition for those guns.” Most gun safe’s are primarily designed for preventing access from unauthorized or unqualified individuals, burglary protection, and to protect the contents from damage during a flood, fire, or natural disaster. In most states access prevention is required by law through the use of a gun lock, metal gun cabinet, or gun safe. Today Gun safes have largely replaced the use of the finely wood stained, glass gun cabinets, that were primarily used for displaying gun collections.

Studies have show that as gun safes become more affordable, they’re becoming as easily penetrable. Here are five essential features that you’ll want to consider prior to purchasing a gun safe: combination locks, metal thickness, good burglar/fire ratings, sturdy anchors and a specialized interior.

Combination Locks

Some simple gun safe’s can be priced ranging from as little as $200-300 to more than $5000. The varying prices are dependent upon several different features including the combination lock, often the priciest locks can be specialized to include a larger number of locks, digital and manual combination, key-locking handles or even biometric locks. Although while a more sophisticated locking mechanism may take burglars a long time to crack the combination too or even deter altogether, it will also slow you down especially in a hurry. Some of the most powerful safes will utilize an interlocking dead bolt system that will bolt itself in place when its under attack and may also contain a hard steel plates that will shatter drill bits during a drill invasion. The GunVault Multi Bio GVB 2000 uses biometrics, specifically fingerprint recognition, to access the safe content. The Gunvault Multi Bio GVB 2000 has a high-performance algorithm is used to achieve speedy identification of enrolled fingerprints and also a a very low False Reject Rate (FRR) for a given False Accept Rate. The GunVault system includes a 16-gauge steel housing, foam lining on the inside and a Tamper-proof, spring-loaded door.

Metal Thickness

Typically, it’s always a good idea to find out what the metal thickness of a gun safe before you decide to purchase. In most cases the thicker the metal, the greater the cost of the gun safe. The typical 18-16 gauge metal safe is very thin and can be penetrated very easily, it is also much more affordable and has a a half-inch steel door and a quarter-inch steel body. However, if your seeking quality metal you’ll need to inspect the UL label, which will either be on the top or side of the door inside the safe. The UL label represents Underwriter’s Laboratories, an independent product safety certification organization. The UL label verifies the safes against a burglar attacks as well as fire endurance, fire and impact and explosion hazards. As a side note, be aware the thickness of metal equals more weight, meaning you’ll need a sturdy floor to support a heavy safe. The Gunvault GV2000C – STD Multi Safe is known for its ROCK-SOLID CONSTRUCTION. The Gunvault GV2000C – STD Multi Safe is constructed on the outside with 16-guage steel and the soft foam on the inside protects valuables.
